Brighton was quite close to achieving this goal, but the home loss in the playoffs against Crystal Palace, deprived the team from playing among the best in England.
The champion of the Dutch Eredivisie from last season Ajax starts the title defence, hosting Roda, who managed to avoid relegation. Ajax triumphed last week winning the Super Cup in an outstanding match against AZ Alkmaar. After falling behind with 0-2 until the 70th minute, the team of Ajax managed to turn the game around and deservedly lifted the trophy.
The team of Fluminense is in quite poor form and must seek their first win since 5 matches against Cruzeiro, who is in top form. The guest have been demonstrating lovely football lately and deservedly they top the standings, while Fluminense has a total of only 9 points from 9 games played.
