Mainz and Freiburg set to finish all square

Mainz and Freiburg set to finish all square

On Friday night, Mainz and Freiburg clash at the OPEL Arena, as both sides look to improve their positions in the Bundesliga table heading towards the end of the campaign.

Mainz heads into this encounter 13th in the German top-flight, 12 points adrift of the European spots and ten points clear of the relegation play-off spot. A 3-1 defeat at Werder Bremen last time out in the Bundesliga means that the home side has suffered four straight league defeats.

The biggest factor in those defeats has been conceding too many goals, as they have conceded at least two goals in three of their last four Bundesliga matches.

Mainz have been inconsistent of late on home soil, as their record of two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six home league outings illustrates. The home sides recent Bundesliga games at the OPEL Arena have been high scoring though, with over 2.5 goals scored in four of their last five matches.

Freiburg are currently just two points and one place better off than Mainz in the German top-flight table. There is very little between the two teams.

Christian Streich’s team are unbeaten in three Bundesliga matches, including picking up highly respectable draws against Monchengladbach and last time out Bayern Munich in their last two outings.

Despite the latest unbeaten run, the visitors have found wins hard to come by in the German top-flight in recent months, as they have won just two of their last ten matches in the Bundesliga.

Freiburg’s latest Bundesliga matches have been tight, low-scoring affairs, with under 2.5 goals scored in five of their last six outings, including their last four games.

The visitors have failed to win in five away games in the Bundesliga. However, three of their last four matches on their travels have ended all square.

Forebet predicts that this clash will end in a low scoring draw, which is highly understandable considering the close proximity of the two teams in the table.
