Millwall powerless to prevent four on the trot for West Brom
2519

The next featured clash in the Championship sees an encounter between teams sitting at either end of the second tier table as relegation threatened Millwall take on high-flying West Brom at the New Den with a valuable three points up for grabs for both sides.

Millwall are precariously perched just above the relegation zone, one point above third from bottom club Rotherham United although they do have a game in hand over The Millers but having lost five of their last six in the Championship, there’s no guarantees that Millwall will take advantage here.

A 2-0 win over Birmingham City at St Andrews has been Millwall’s only highlight in what has been a miserable stretch of results which also includes recent defeats to Preston North End, Hull City, Norwich City, Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United.

This slump in form has dumped Millwall into the relegation mire, and although they return to home turf for Saturday’s clash with West Brom, The Lions are without a home win from their last five matches on home soil.

West Brom’s revival under caretaker-manager Jimmy Shan continued with a 3-2 home win over west midlands rivals, Birmingham City last Friday night, and this followed on from back-to-back wins against Swansea City and Brentford which has kick-started The Baggies’ push for a play-off spot.

The visitors have registered a total of 20 wins so far in this season’s Championship but they’ve actually performed better away from home as the west midlands club have won 11 on their travels which includes winning five of their last six on the road.

Wins at Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City, Aston Villa, QPR and Brentford have maintained West Brom’s push for at least a play-off spot, but with six points separating them from 2nd placed Leeds United, they’re still in with a chance of nicking one of the two automatic promotion berths.

With the prolific goalscoring exploits of forwards Rodriguez (19 goals) and Gayle (17 goals), the visitors will fancy their chances of making it four wins on the trot in the nation’s capital on Saturday, and should at the very least walk away with a point from this encounter.

Millwall are caught in a slump right now and face a tough challenge of keeping West Brom quiet here. The attacking quality of the visitors should be the difference in this one.
