Venezia and Palermo to finish all square

On Wednesday night, Venezia host Palermo in the Italian Serie B play-off first leg, as both teams look to aide their promotion chances.

Venezia finished fifth place in the Serie B table in the regular season. The Venice outfit finished their campaign in fine form, winning six of their last eight league outings while suffering just one defeat.

The home side also managed to keep five clean sheets in their last eight league games of the season, which proved to be key in sealing a play-off spot.

Despite the aforementioned clean sheets, Venezia’s recent Serie B games have been high scoring, with over 2.5 goals scored in five of their last seven outings in the Italian second tier.

Filippo Inzaghi’s side has been strong on home soil in Serie B of late, winning ten of their last 12 games at home.

They have been highly effective at both ends of the pitch at home, scoring at least two goals in four of their last five games, while also keeping four clean sheets in the same amount of games.

An inconsistent run of form towards the end of the Serie B season cost the Sicilian’s the chance of automatic promotion. Five draws in their last nine league games meant that Roberto Stellone’s side had to settle for a play-off spot.

The visitor’s recent Serie B games have been low scoring, with under 2.5 goals scored in six of their last nine league outings.

Palermo won their last two away games last season in the Italian second tier. However, the visitors have won just three of their last 12 games on their travels in Serie B.

They have been prolific on their travels in the league, though, scoring at least twice in five of their last seven away games in the Italian Serie B.

Just four points separated the two teams in the league last season. Unsurprisingly, Forebet predicts that this game will end in a low scoring draw.
