Cardiff City Bid to End Winless Streak

Cardiff City Bid to End Winless Streak

Wales may have had a successful time in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday night but their representative in the Premier League has been suffering this season.

Cardiff City start their 9th league game of the season at home to Fulham sitting bottom of the table.  A home match against a fellow newly promoted team is arguably the best chance the Bluebirds are going to get of winning a match this season.

Fulham will be looking at this game as a chance to get back to winning ways themselves following some heavy defeats.

Cardiff City come into this match having failed to win a Premier League game this season. They have picked up just 2 points from a possible 24 having been held to draws at home against Newcastle United and away to Huddersfield Town.

Instead of building on those draws, Cardiff City have gone backwards.  Trends show they have lost each of their last six games, five in the Premier League and one in the League Cup.  Cardiff City failed to keep a clean sheet in any of those six games and only managed to find the back of the net five times themselves.

Home form has been poor and Cardiff City have lost each of their last four games in the Welsh capital.  The number of goals conceded is giving cause for concern and Cardiff City have allowed 13 goals into their own net at an average of 3.25 per game.

Fulham travel to Wales having suffered a big home defeat at the hands of Arsenal last time out. Having gone in at 1-1 after the first 45 minutes, Fulham collapsed in the second half and allowed Arsenal too much space in the attacking third to eventually lose the game 5-1 at Craven Cottage.

That result means Fulham have failed to win any of their last five Premier League games.  Having made a decent start to the season with 4 points from their first four league games, Fulham have lost three and drawn two of their last five.

Trends show Fulham have won just one of their last eight Premier League games and away from home they have drawn one and lost three of their four matches.  Fulham have conceded 2 or more goals in each of their four Premier League away matches this season and both teams have scored in ten of their last eleven meetings with Cardiff City in all competitions.

Team news and Cardiff City are without the injured duo of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Lee Peltier plus Aron Gunnarsson remains doubtful.  Joe Ralls starts a three-match ban and will miss out.

Fulham are still without Joe Bryan and Timothy Fosu-Mensah who are on the treatment table while Calum Chambers and Tom Cairney are doubtful.

Cardiff City have clearly been trying to be play with more attacking intent but it has come at a price defensively.  The home team could score goals in this game but keeping out Aleksandar Mitrovic and company will be tough.  A draw with both teams scoring seems the most likely outcome.
