Nottingham Forest to bounce back against Blackburn Rovers

Nottingham Forest to bounce back against Blackburn Rovers
1929

After being handed back-to-back defeats away at Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday respectively, Martin O’Neill’s side will be eager to return to their City Ground for Saturday’s clash against a beleaguered looking Blackburn Rovers outfit.

Forest have gained just one win out of their last five matches overall in the Championship in recent weeks which was a 2-1 home win against Swansea City, but recent defeats to Aston Villa as well as the aforementioned losses at Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday have resulted in the hosts being eight points off the pace of the play-off pack.

It’s therefore starting to look increasingly likely that Nottingham Forest will once again miss out on a top six finish, but having won five of their last six at home, there’s still room for optimism amongst the Forest fans that they can stage a late surge.

Recent wins against Wigan Athletic, Brentford, Derby County, Hull City and Swansea City will give the hosts confidence that they can grab all three points in Saturday’s clash at least.

Blackburn Rovers will make their way down to the east midlands to face Nottingham Forest on the back of a much needed three points against Nottingham Forest’s arch-rivals, Derby County during the week, and Rovers will no doubt be hoping they can claim another east midlands scalp here too.

However, with just two wins registered from their last 12 matches overall in the Championship, which incidentally were both recorded at their Ewood Park ground with wins against Wigan and Derby, the visitors are expected to be up against it at the City Ground.

In addition, Blackburn Rovers are without a win from their last six matches on the road which include five defeats at Brentford, Reading, Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday and Aston Villa, so a trip to face a Nottingham Forest outfit who have registered 11 home wins out of 20 matches played, may look beyond them here.

Only 4 of their total of 13 league wins to date have been achieved away from home with wins at Hull City, Stoke City, Bolton Wanderers and Millwall, three of whom currently occupy positions in the lower half of the Championship, so 11th placed Nottingham Forest could be a challenge too far.

Of the two clubs, Nottingham Forest look the more likely to grab the points in this clash.
