Lazio with Opportunity to Extend Serie A Lead

Atalanta Bergamo vs Lazio - 24/06/2020

Lazio with Opportunity to Extend Serie A Lead
1712

One of the biggest matches of the weekend in the Italian Serie A takes place at the Gewiss Stadium as Atalanta welcome Lazio.

The hosts are currently in 4th place in the table and will be hoping to qualify for the Champions League for the second season in succession. The visitors have bigger aims and will be hoping to move 5 points clear of Juventus at the top of the table, although the defending champions will have 2 games in hand.

Atalanta come into the game having secured a spectacular 7-2 victory at Lecce last weekend. It was a tremendous result and the 7 goals scored mean Atalanta are the top goal scorers in Serie A having found the net 10 more times than Lazio. The victory at Lecce means Atalanta have won their last 4 matches in all competitions.

In addition to the win last weekend Atalanta have also defeated Fiorentina 2-1 away from home plus Roma at home in Serie A. They also recorded an excellent 2-0 victory over Valencia at home in the Champions League.

Atalanta are now on a run of 3 straight victories in Serie A and have lost only one of their last 6 at home. They have seen both teams score in each of their last 3 home league games and there have been over 2.5 goals scored in their last 7 at the Gewiss Stadium. Atalanta have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 3 home matches.

Lazio moved to the top of Serie A as they defeated Bologna 2-0 at home last weekend. Juventus did not play due to the coronavirus which meant they did not have a chance to move back above Lazio.

Lazio are on a tremendous run of form and have remained undefeated in their last 21 league games. It is this great run which has seen them move into contention for the title this season. They have won each of their last 4 Serie A matches, 2 of which were away from home at Parma and Genoa.

Lazio’s goalscoring record is excellent and they have scored 2 or more goals in each of their last 3 League games. They have also found the back of the net in each of their last 9 away Serie A matches, including 2 or more goals in 7 of those games.

Team news and Atalanta are without Bosko Sutalo and Rafael Toloi although both are expected to recover from injury this month. Berat Djimsiti is a doubt.

Lazio are expected to be without Adam Marusic, Francesco Acerbi and Senad Lulic who are all trying to recover from injury. Marusic and Acerbi have a chance of being involved but this game is likely to be too early for Lulic.

This could be one of the most entertaining games of the season in Italy but Lazio must be favourites to take maximum points. They have been in fantastic form and could easily score 2 or more goals on their way to victory.
