For the eighth time in ten years, Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich face off in the German Super Cup.

The 2021 DFL-Supercup takes place at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday, with the Bundesliga champions visiting the home of the DFB-Pokal winners.

It’s safe to say that Bayern have dominated the Super Cup in recent times, winning six of the previous 11 trophies.

But having triumphed in 2013, 2014 and 2019, Dortmund will surely be confident of regaining the silverware this year.

In fact, Dortmund started the new Bundesliga season in hugely impressive fashion on Saturday – crushing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-2.

Not only did BVB enjoy 61% possession on home soil, but they also racked up 13 shots – seven of which were on target.

Unsurprisingly, Erling Haaland was the star of the show. The Norwegian prodigy bagged two goals and three assists, while Marco Rues, Thorgan Hazard and Gio Reyna also got on the scoresheet.

In a run stretching back to April, Dortmund have now won ten straight matches in competitive tournaments.

It is also worth pointing out that BVB haven’t registered a single draw in any of their previous 14 competitive games, picking up 11 wins and three losses in that time.

On the flip side, it’s fair to say that Bayern Munich have made a shaky start to life under new boss Julian Naglesmann.

After recording one draw and three losses in pre-season, Bayern were held to a 1-1 draw by Borussia Monchengladbach on the opening weekend of the 2021/22 Bundesliga campaign.

Despite seeing 65% of the ball and registering 21 shots, Bayern failed to claim all three points on Friday – although Robert Lewandowski scored on the opening day for a record seventh consecutive season.

It is worth noting that Bayern Munich have only managed to win two of their last five competitive games.

Head-to-head: Bayern Munich are enjoying a run of five straight victories over Borussia Dortmund in all competitions.

Dortmund’s last win over Bayern came back in August 2019. Since then, Bayern have scored 15 goals in this fixture – equating to three goals per game.

Team news: Dortmund have several key defenders out injured at the moment, including Raphael Guerreiro, Mats Hummels, Dan Axel-Zagadou, Thomas Munier and Marcel Schmelzer.

As for Bayern, Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez and Marc Roca are all on the treatment table. On a brighter note, Alphonso Davies, Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso have returned to training.

Given the high-scoring nature of this fixture, we are likely to see plenty of goals on Tuesday. That said, Dortmund have started the season better than Bayern.

Considering Bayern’s shaky start under Naglesmann, Forebet predicts that Dortmund will score over 2.5 goals on their way to sealing the Super Cup.
