Sevilla aiming for second consecutive home La Liga win

Sevilla have risen up the La Liga table since the arrival of manager Jose Luis Mendilibar. The manager is unbeaten in five straight La Liga matches, collecting 13 points from 15 points available.

Los Rojiblancos’ form in the league coincided with their improved Europa League performances. Sevilla will play in the competition's semifinals and could add to their UEFA-leading haul of Europa League trophies.

On Monday, Girona will visit the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan for a midtable clash. Girona are 10th in the standings and look set for another season in the Spanish top flight.

The Gironistes are fresh off a fantastic 4-2 midweek home win over Real Madrid. It was Girona’s third win in their last five matches in the competition. Girona took 10 points from the last 15 points on offer in La Liga.

In January, Girona defeated Sevilla 2-1 at the Estadi Montilivi. Sevilla opened the scoring through Tanguy Nianzou in the 13th minute.

Girona fought back in the second half with goals from Cristhian Stuani and Yangel Herrera to win the match. Herrera’s match-winning goal was in the 88th minute.

Despite losing earlier this season to Girona, Sevilla hold a record of four wins and two defeats against the Gironistes in their last six meetings.

Sevilla outscored Girona 6-3, as the teams combined for 21 yellow cards and one red card.

The last four matches between the clubs finished with the home team winning. Five of the last six games between Sevilla and Girona were wins to nil. Five of the last six matches ended with under 2.5 goals.

Sevilla are unbeaten in five of their last six matches at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Girona, on the other hand, are winless in four straight matches in La Liga away from home.

Girona manager Michel has several injured and suspended players for Monday night. Defender Arnai Martinez is suspended. Meanwhile, midfielders Aleix Garcia, Borja Garcia, Toni Villa, David Lopez, Yangel Herrera, Joel Casais, and Ibrahima Kebe are all likely to miss the match through injuries.

Mendilibar only has two players on the injury list. Defender Teixeira Marcao could miss the match with a muscle problem. Midfielder Joan Jordan has an Achilles tendon injury which could keep him sidelined.

Sevilla are playing well under Mendilibar and should continue their form. Girona are winless in four straight away matches, which should lead Sevilla to win at home.

The match should finish 1-0 in favour of Sevilla.
