The German Super Cup goes down at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, with reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich taking on last season’s DFB-Pokal winners RB Leipzig.

Bayern Munich claimed a 5-3 victory over RB Leipzig in last year’s DFL-Supercup, meaning the Bavarians have won each of the previous three showpieces.

When you look at the bigger picture, Bayern have won six of the past seven Super Cups, highlighting their domination of German football.

It is worth remembering, however, that Bayern Munich almost surrendered the Bundesliga title to Borussia Dortmund last season.

The two sides finished level on 71 points at the top of the table, with Bayern ultimately triumphing thanks to their superior goal difference.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have enjoyed a successful pre-season, winning four of their five warm-up matches, including victories over Liverpool and Monaco.

With the 2023-24 Bundesliga season kicking off next weekend, Bayern will be eager to gather further momentum ahead of the new campaign.

On the flip side, RB Leipzig finished third in the Bundesliga last season – five points shy of the top two – after winning their final five matches.

Despite falling short in the league, the Red Bulls defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the DFB-Pokal final, securing their second successive cup crown.

Leipzig have recorded four wins, one draw and two losses in pre-season, thrashing Grimma 7-0 and Altglienicke 9-2 along the way.

That said, the Red Bulls have lost three key players to the Premier League this summer, selling Josko Gvardiol, Dominik Szoboszlai and Christopher Nkunku.

Head-to-head: When Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig last met back in May, the Red Bulls claimed a 3-1 victory at the Allianz Arena.

In terms of the bigger picture, though, Bayern have lost just one of their previous 12 matches against Leipzig across all competitions, winning on six occasions.

Team news: Bayern Munich will be without Malik Tillman on Saturday as the 21-year-old American continues to recover from a hamstring issue.

As for RB Leipzig, their injury list features Peter Gulacsi (knee), Amadou Haidara (calf) and Lukas Klostermann (thigh).

Despite the fact that Leipzig beat Bayern at the Allianz Arena less than three months ago, the Bavarians will be confident of exacting revenge on the Red Bulls.

Forebet predicts that Bayern Munich will cruise to victory in the German Super Cup, scoring over 2.5 goals while keeping a clean sheet for good measure.
