Aston Villa are back in Europa Conference League action this Thursday with a tough trip away to AZ Alkmaar as the Premier League side head into this one after another excellent victory that sees them sitting fifth in the league.
Unai Emery’s revolution at Aston Villa continued over the weekend with a magnificent home win over West Ham United. Douglas Luiz was the star of the show that day with a goal from the penalty spot and a finish in the first half from open play too.
Ollie Watkins also scored a goal in the second half that game before Leon Bailey netted towards the end of the match.
This was the sixth win of the season for Villa with them now scoring the second most goals in the Premier League with 23 going in for them, while 13 goals have been conceded. Emery's men have also lost just one game too.
Those losses saw them suffer a 3-0 defeat at Anfield to Liverpool after also losing on the opening weekend to Newcastle United at St. James' Park. In the past few weeks, however, Villa have still managed to get an excellent win at Stamford Bridge, while also smashing Brighton & Hove Albion 6-1 as well.
The only loss in the past month has seen Emery's side suffer a 2-1 home defeat in the EFL Cup to Everton. So far in Europe, Villa have defeated Zrinjski at home with a late winner from John McGinn, as they also suffered a loss to Legia Warszawa away from home on matchday one.
Villa still have some injuries to worry about heading into this one as well, so there are likely to be very few changes to the side that won over the weekend. Emiliano Buendia and Tyrone Mings remain out for the season, while Alex Moreno and Jacob Ramsey are not going to feature here either.
As for Alkmaar, they are sitting second in the Eredivisie after a sensational start to the season sees them unbeaten on the domestic front with a fantastic record of 25 goals scored and four let in.
Back in Europe, the Dutch giants have also won one and lost one, as they played out a 4-3 defeat to Zrinjski on matchday one in Group E where Dani de Wit, Sven Mijnans and Myron van Brederode all scored a goal each.
