Can Leeds’ defence step up against Peterborough United at London Road?

Peterborough United will host Leeds United in a fantastic tie between League One and Championship clubs.

The Posh are third in League One and battling for a promotion back to the Championship.

Manager Darren Ferguson returned to the club halfway through the previous campaign and is working his magic once more.

Leeds United, on the other hand, are fourth in the EFL Championship. They too are fighting for promotion and could return to the Premier League once more after being relegated last season.

The Whites are coming off a 3-0 win over Championship rival Birmingham City. The win ended a two-game losing streak for the Elland Road club.

Leeds have been hot and cold on the road, posting a record of 5W-3D-6L in all competitions. The team has a -1-goal difference on the road with 17 goals for and 16 against.

Compared to years past under the management of Marcelo Bielsa and Jesse Marsch, Leeds are playing well defensively.

The team conceded just 27 times this season for an average of 0.96 goals per game.

The Whites conceded 16 of their 27 goals on the road. Their penchant to concede goals on the road could give Peterborough the chance to sneak a goal or two at home and progress in the cup.

The Posh are on a 10-game unbeaten streak in all competitions. They defeated Doncaster Rovers in the FA Cup second round by a score of 2-1.

Harrison Burrows opened the scoring in the third minute and Ephron Mason-Clark added a second in the 53rd minute. Doncaster pulled a goal back on 75 minutes but couldn’t find an equaliser.

These clubs haven’t met since the 2012-13 Championship campaign. In their six previous meetings between 2008 and 2013, Leeds posted a record of 4W-1D-1L.

Leeds manager Daniel Farke will be without defender Luke Ayling due to a knee injury.

Defender Pascal Struijk is unlikely to play following a groin injury. Jamie Shackleton and Stuart Dallas are both ruled out too.

Peterborough United are led in goals this season by Mason-Clark, with 10.

He scored in the second round and could fancy his chances against Leeds at home. Teammate Jonson Clarke-Harris has nine goals in all competitions.

The Posh should fancy themselves as giant killers playing at London Road. However, Leeds should find a way to eke by with a win over the League One club, 2-1. It could be close, with Leeds just getting the victory.
