Forebet is here to group together the latest in data, football predictions, trends and look at the match probability for the Africa Cup of Nations third place playoff between South Africa and DR Congo.

In reality, not many predicted either one of these nations to be playing for third spot at the start of the tournament. DR Congo were huge outsiders and even struggled a lot in their group stage campaign.

Over in Group F, the country failed to win a single game, and although they drew each one with Zambia, Morocco and Tanzania, they also scored only two goals and let in two as well.

In fact, this put DR Congo as the worst runners-up across the groups in terms of form.

DR Congo continued their winless form in 90 minutes in the knockout stages too, as they drew 1-1 in regular time with Egypt after a goal from Meschak Elia. This was also their only shot on target throughout the game.

Les Léopards eventually won the match on penalties, and they finally got their first win in regular time when they met with Guinea in the quarter-finals.

Chancel Mbemba Mangulu scored that evening, alongside a penalty from Yoane Wissa. Arthur Masuaku also scored late on from defence too.

DR Congo reached the end of the line soon after, however, as Ivory Coast beat them 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Sebastien Haller. DR Congo also had just two shots on target that afternoon.

As for South Africa, their run has been considerably better. The country have managed to win one game on penalties after a 0-0 draw with Cape Verde, with a terrible shootout seeing only two penalties scored for them.

On the other hand, South Africa stunned the favourites Morocco in the round of 16 with a goal from Evidence Makgopa and Teboho Mokoena.

Similarly to DR Congo, on the other hand, the nation also struggled at times in the group stages. Data shows only seven shots on target throughout the three games, as they only defeated Namibia in a 4-0 thrashing.

Percy Tau scored a penalty that game, before a brace from Themba Zwane and a goal from Thapelo Maseko.

South Africa also drew 0-0 with Tunisia and were beaten by Mali. They crashed out of this year’s AFCON when they lost on penalties to Nigeria.

Teboho Mokoena scored another penalty that day, as Grant Kekana was sent off in extra time and now can't play in this game.

Forebet predicts a draw in regular time and under 2.5 goals.
