On Thursday, Bayer Leverkusen booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals at the expense of West Ham United, maintaining their unbeaten streak in 2023-24.

Having already wrapped up the Bundesliga title with five games to spare, Xabi Alonso’s side take on Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday afternoon.

Like Leverkusen, Dortmund enjoyed European success in midweek, reaching the Champions League semi-finals after dispatching Atletico Madrid.

Edin Terzic’s side thrashed the Spanish giants 4-2 on Tuesday, setting up a semi-final showdown with Paris Saint-Germain thanks to a 5-4 aggregate victory.

In the Bundesliga, Dortmund have won five of their last six matches, securing a 2-1 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend.

Having lost just two of their previous 15 league games, BVB find themselves outside the top four on goal difference. Can they upset the apple cart this weekend?

As for Bayer Leverkusen, they drew 1-1 with West Ham on Thursday, punching their ticket to the last four of the Europa League thanks to a 3-1 aggregate win.

That result means that Alonso’s side remain unbeaten across all competitions this season, having registered 38 wins and six draws in 2023-24.

Last weekend, Leverkusen secured their first-ever Bundesliga title with a 5-0 thrashing of Werder Bremen, with Florian Wirtz netting a hat-trick in the rout.

Consequently, Bayer head into Sunday’s clash on a 10-game winning streak in the league, having kept a clean sheet in 50% of those encounters.

Head-to-head: Borussia Dortmund managed to hold Bayer Leverkusen to a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture back in December.

It is also worth noting that BVB have won four of their previous six Bundesliga meetings with Leverkusen, suffering a solitary defeat in the process.

Team news: Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi is suspended after picking up a red card last weekend, while Ramy Bensebaini, Sebastien Haller and Donyell Malen are injured.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Amine Adli will also miss Sunday’s clash due to suspension, while Adam Hlozek and Borja Iglesias are sidelined through injury.

Given what Leverkusen have already achieved this season, it is difficult to imagine Alonso’s side tasting defeat this weekend.

Forebet predicts that in-form Dortmund will push Leverkusen all the way. However, the newly-crowned champions are expected to score over 1.5 goals en route to victory.
