Can Liverpool continue unbeaten run versus Wolverhampton Wanderers?

Liverpool continued their unbeaten run in the Premier League on Boxing Day with a resounding 4-0 win against Leicester City. The Reds are now 13 points clear of Leicester City after dominating the second-placed team.

Jurgen Klopp’s side won’t have it easy on Sunday. Wolverhampton Wanderers are eighth in the division and have taken points off of Manchester City away and Manchester United at home. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team won’t be frightened of playing Liverpool.

Last season saw Liverpool win both league matches versus Wolverhampton Wanderers, 2-0. Wolves did snatch a 2-1 FA Cup third round win at Molineux, but Liverpool were forced to play a heavily rotated team.

Klopp should rotate his team once more to face Wolverhampton Wanderers with matches piling up. Liverpool will play their ninth match in all competitions in December on Sunday to end a marathon month many felt would see the Reds’ Premier League lead decrease.

Liverpool have six players on the injury list including Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip, Fabinho, Nathaniel Clyne, and Rhian Brewster. Jordan Henderson suffered a knock versus Leicester City but should be back in line to play.

Klopp could sit Henderson to rest him with Adam Lallana or James Milner taking his place. Mohamed Salah continued to blow hot and cold versus Leicester City and could be rested once more.

He was removed early with Liverpool only up one goal. Liverpool scored three times with Salah off the pitch to run riot over Leicester City.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have two long-term player injuries headed into the weekend. Centre-back Willy Boly and midfielder Morgan White-Gibbs are both out of action. Boly has a fractured foot that should see him out until the spring. White-Gibbs is day to day with a back issue.

Liverpool’s defence is playing its best all season despite first-choice centre-back Joel Matip and second-choice centre-back Dejan Lovren being out injured. Joe Gomez has stepped in and played brilliantly in Liverpool’s last three matches in all competitions.

Wolverhampton Wanderers could get at Gomez and Liverpool’s defence with their strong counter-attack. Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore could bully Liverpool’s defenders.

Sunday’s match should see both teams find the back of the net and over 2.5 goals scored by the sides. Twenty of Liverpool’s 28 matches in all competitions have seen over 2.5 goals scored this season. Forebet predicts another win for Liverpool.
