A Rundown of the Premier League Golden Boot Statistics

A Rundown of the Premier League Golden Boot Statistics

After Erling Haaland ran away with the Golden Boot in 2022/23, the race for the Premier League top scorer award this season is a lot hotter and more intense.

As of now, there are at least six players well in the running for the Golden Boot.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City’s top marksman scored 36 Premier League goals last time out and now has 20 ahead of the FA Cup weekend. A lot of the reasoning behind his fewer goals this season is injuries. Haaland has missed six matches this season due to injury, but he has still got himself 20 goals.

He last scored a penalty against Luton and he has scored three headers in the Premier League this season.

Cole Palmer

Nobody could have predicted Cole Palmer would be level on goals with Haaland after leaving City for Chelsea. However, with back-to-back hat-tricks at Stamford Bridge, Palmer is now on 20 goals.

He has been scoring a lot of his goals via the penalty spot, however, meaning he has way fewer goals from open play than the likes of Haaland, Ollie Watkins and Dominic Solanke. Palmer has seven goals in his past two games and has eight penalties across the season and just one header.

Ollie Watkins

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins just keeps getting better and better and he now has 26 goals in all competitions as he tries to spearhead his side to a Europa Conference League triumph and a Champions League finish.

Watkins has scored 19 goals now and is only one adrift of Palmer and Haaland. Watkins got another famous goal last weekend by scoring against Arsenal, and but he has more headers than everyone on this list by scoring two headers against Brentford two weeks ago, another header against the Bees away from home and headers against Bournemouth and Luton Town.

Honourable mentions

Solanke, Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah are all on 17 Premier League goals. It’s tough to see how Solanke gets the Golden Boot given how he plays for Bournemouth, but it has still been a sensational season for him.

Isak, on the other hand, just keeps getting better and better and is currently in his best-ever goalscoring form. Isak is also on penalty duty for Newcastle United and so far has four goals from the penalty spot.

Salah is no stranger to Golden Boot races, having three in the bag already. Salah has scored most of his goals from the penalty spot this season too, making it his worst-ever season from open play for Liverpool
