Borussia Dortmund seeking Bundesliga win to stay in title race
3245

Borussia Dortmund are six points off of first-place Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga title race. The Yellow and Black are on a three-match winning streak in the Bundesliga and a win could take them closer to the top of the table.

Bayer Leverkusen head into the weekend on a three-match undefeated run. The Company XI won their last two fixtures in the Bundesliga.

Although the title is out of Bayer Leverkusen’s reach, they are focused on finishing in the top four and qualifying for next season’s Champions League.

The Company XI are two points ahead of fifth-place Freiburg. The race for Champions League qualification in the Bundesliga sees five teams separated by just four points.

Borussia Dortmund are on a two-match winning streak against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga. In the teams’ reverse fixture, Borussia Dortmund claimed a 4-3 win. Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz opened the scoring with a goal in the ninth minute.

Erling Haaland levelled the score on 37 minutes, but Bayer Leverkusen scored minutes later through Patrik Schick. Julian Brandt and Moussa Diaby then traded goals to make the score 3-2 to Bayer Leverkusen.

With 19 minutes to play Raphael Guerreiro and Haaland (penalty) scored to send Borussia Dortmund to the win. The match was the eighth straight meeting between the Bundesliga rivals to finish with over 2.5 goals.

Bayer Leverkusen coach Gerardo Seoane could be without up to six players. Daley Sinkgraven, Paulinho, Edmond Tapsoba, Exequiel Palacios, and Julian Baumgartlinger could all make returns to the team from injuries and illness. Andrey Lunev is the only Leverkusen player that is ruled out currently.

Marco Rose is likely to be without Haaland once more. The striker has a groin injury that will likely keep him out until mid-February.

Defender Thomas Meunier could be fit to play along with Roman Burki. Midfielder Emre Can looks set to miss out with a groin injury.

Borussia Dortmund took 15 points from the last 18 points available in the Bundesliga. Bayer Leverkusen took just eight points from the last 18 points available in the division.

However, Bayer Leverkusen are unbeaten in three straight games.

Rose’s Yellow and Black are playing at home where they have picked up a league leading 27 points from 30 points possible.

Borussia Dortmund should claim a third straight win over Bayer Leverkusen in the league. The teams should once combine for more than 2.5 goals and both teams will score.
