Unstoppable Porto tipped to edge out Sporting in top-two battle

The top two in Portugal’s Primeira Liga go head-to-head on Friday night as FC Porto welcome Sporting CP to Estadio do Dragao.

The teams are separated by six points in the standings, with first-place Porto leading second-place Sporting.

With third-place Benfica sitting six points outside the top two, the result of Friday’s clash will likely have a big impact on the title race.

Thanks to a seriously strong end to the previous campaign, Porto’s unbeaten streak in the Primeira Liga currently stands at 49 games.

The Dragons have yet to taste defeat in the league this season, having picked up 19 wins and two draws in 21 games.

It is also worth noting that Porto head into Friday’s showdown on a 16-match winning streak in the Primeira Liga.

Given that Sergio Conceicao’s men have managed to score at least one goal in each of their previous 34 league games, they are expected to find the net against Sporting.

Let’s not forget that Sporting are also enjoying hugely impressive run at the moment, having lost just three of their past 55 Primeira Liga clashes.

This season, the Lions have lost only two of their 21 league games – securing 17 wins and two draws along the way.

It is also worth pointing out that Sporting boast the best defensive record in the division, having conceded just 13 goals this term.

Given that Sporting have netted over 1.5 goals in each of their last seven away games in the Primeira Liga, they will be confident of scoring at Estadio do Dragao.

Head-to-head: Sporting have only managed to win one of their previous ten meetings with Porto across all competitions, losing three of the past eight.

Eight of the last nine meetings between Porto and Sporting have produced over 1.5 goals, meaning we should see plenty of action on Friday.

Team news: Porto will be without injured right-back Wilson Manafa on Friday as he continues to recover from a patella rupture.

As for Sporting, they will be without suspended right-back Pedro Porro, who picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign last time out.

This is destined to be an epic battle between the top two teams in Portugal. However, Porto are expected to come out on top.

Forebet predicts that Porto will extend their incredible unbeaten streak on Friday, scoring over 2.5 goals on their way to victory.
