PSG Expected to Edge Past Lorient as the Title Gets Closer to Paris

Paris Saint-Germain will look to stroll to the Ligue 1 title in the final nine games of the campaign with them now boasting a 12-point gap on second-placed Marseille ahead of playing hosts to a Lorient side who sit narrowly above the drop zone.

Despite the topsy-turvy nature of their season that included another dismal Champions League display and an exit from the French Cup to Nice, PSG are still easily the best team in France this season and in reality, have had another very easy and comfortable season in their hunt for the Ligue 1 title.

Every now and then, the club have slipped up and struggled to get themselves the win, as they still have four defeats and five draws on their record from the 29 games so far.

On the other hand, with 27 goals conceded, they have the best defensive record in the division along with Marseille.

At the same time, however, PSG have struggled on the goals front this campaign, with Lionel Messi and Neymar barely scoring, just as Kylian Mbappe is currently putting in his worst goals ratio since his debut season at the Parc des Princes.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are still very comfortable at the top though, and if the 12-point gap remains, they will be victorious in Ligue 1 and have their hands back on the title by the end of this month.

Better yet for the club, they play hosts to Marseille in three weeks, so if they can beat Lorient here, the title could be wrapped up as early as April 17th.

The Ligue 1 serial winners did lose to Monaco just before the international break, however, in what was easily their worst performance of the season as they lost 3-0 away from home and barely got a sniff in front of goal.

Lorient are down in 16th after their two-game unbeaten run that saw them take vital points off Clermont Foot, before they drew with Strasbourg at the Stade du Moustoir.

They are still only a point above the relegation play-off spot, however, and just five above 19th-placed Metz as well. Now, as they sit with the league's worst goals scored record of just 24, it could be a long night in Paris for Lorient.

It’s near impossible to not back PSG against any Ligue 1 side this season given their record and the players they boast, but on the other hand, with Lorient in such poor form, Forebet predicts PSG the home side to win here as the game is expected to see over 2.5 goals.
