Everton desperate for points versus Chelsea
5377

Everton are two points adrift from safety in the Premier League ahead of Sunday’s visit from Chelsea at Goodison Park. The Toffees are fresh off of a 2-0 Merseyside Derby loss to Liverpool. Manager Frank Lampard is desperate to get points and get the Toffees out of the bottom three.

Chelsea arrive at Goodison Park following a 1-0 home win against West Ham. The Blues have blown hot and cold recently with two losses and two wins from their last four league matches.

Thomas Tuchel’s team is third in the league and five points ahead of fourth-place Arsenal. Chelsea have a game in hand, which means they still have six games left to play. Third place is Chelsea’s to lose at the moment.

Based on the form of the teams chasing Chelsea in the table, it is unlikely that the Blues will end the season outside of third place.

Chelsea have not won at Goodison Park since the 2016-17 season. The Blues are winless in four straight games at Goodison Park with each of the last three matches ending as losses.

Tuchel’s team is in good form ahead of the match on Merseyside. Chelsea took 12 points from the last 18 points on offer in the division. They scored 14 goals and conceded nine times across the last six games.

Everton took seven points from the last 18 points available to them. They scored six goals and conceded eight times. The Toffees’ last two games in the league finished without wins.

In the reverse fixture, Everton picked up a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. Mason Mount opened the scoring for the Blues in the 70th minute. Everton’s Jarrad Braithwaite scored four minutes later to give his team a share of the spoils.

Lampard is missing a number of players for the fixture. Striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin is ruled out with a thigh injury. Donny van de Beek is a major doubt to play due to a groin issue.

Andre Gomes is a doubt thanks to a groin injury of his own. Centre-back Yerry Mina is nearing a return to full fitness and could play. Meanwhile, Tom Davies, Ben Goddfrey, and Andros Townsend are all ruled out through injury.

Tuchel also has a long list of injured players. Mateo Kovacic is ruled out, but Antonio Rudiger could be fit to play following a groin strain.

Defenders Reece James and Andreas Christensen are both likely to be fit to play as well. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ross Barkley, and Ben Chilwell are all currently ruled out through injury.

Cheslea should end their awful form at Goodison Park with a win over Everton. The Blues should claim a 2-1 win away to put more pressure on Everton.
