Mallorca with Chance of Top Seven Finish but Face Huge Test at the Champions
2024

We have reached the penultimate round of matches in the 2022/23 La Liga season and on the 28th of May we have a meeting between Barcelona and Mallorca.

The game will be played at the Camp Nou and the hosts have sealed the title on 85 points while the visitors are in 10th place on 47 points and hoping to finish as high as 7th.

Barcelona come into the game on the back of a disappointing 3-1 defeat at relegation threatened Real Valladolid on Tuesday night.

It took just 2 minutes for the hosts to open the scoring and Real Valladolid doubled their advantage 20 minutes later. Real Valladolid secured all 3 points with a third goal in the 73rd minute but Barcelona did pull one goal back with 6 minutes remaining on the clock.

The defeat at Real Valladolid was the second successive defeat for Barcelona in the league following the 2-1 home loss at the hands of Real Sociedad. Barcelona found themselves 2-0 down before scoring a consolation goal at the end.

Despite recent defeats, Barcelona remain difficult to beat at home and they are undefeated in 17 of their last 18 home La Liga fixtures. They have won of their 10 most recent home league games and have kept a clean sheet in 4 of their last 5 La Liga matches on home soil.

Mallorca make the trip to the Camp Nou having beat Valencia 1-0 at home on Thursday night. The only goal of the game was scored in the 64th minute and the victory means Mallorca could finish well inside the top half of the table this season.

However, trends show Mallorca have won only 2 of their last 6 fixtures, all of which have been played in La Liga.

The wins have come over Cadiz and Valencia at home but there have been defeats against Atletico Madrid, Girona, and Almeria away in the league. Mallorca were also held to a 1-1 draw at home by Athletic Club.

Away form in the league shows Mallorca have achieved just 6 wins in their 36 most recent fixtures on the road. They have lost 9 of their last 11 away La Liga matches, including each of their last 3 and have conceded 2 or more goals in 4 of their last 5 away trips.

Team news and Barcelona continue without the injured duo of Pedri and Ronald Araujo. They also have doubts over the fitness of defender Jules Kounde.

Mallorca also have two players on the treatment table with Antonio Raíllo and Matija Nastasic missing out. Midfielder Inigo Ruiz de Galarreta is a doubt due to a muscle problem.

Barcelona will want to finish the season at home in style and should have enough to beat a Mallorca team who do not win many games on the road. We expect Barcelona to score 2 or more goals in this match and keep a clean sheet on their way to maximum points.
