The Europa League kicks off on Thursday and goes straight into the third qualifying round.
Iceland’s Breidablik Kopavogur will visit Bosnia and Herzegovinian club Zrinjski Mostar for the first leg of their two-legged tie.
Mostar begin the season playing in the UEFA Champions League after winning the Premier League BH last season.
The Nobles began in the first qualifying round and defeated Urartu 4-3 on penalties after an aggregate score of 3-3.
Mostar were then knocked out of the competition by Slavan Bratislava 3-2.
Breidablik Kopavogur had a slightly longer journey in the Champions League.
The Icelandic club joined the tournament in the preliminary round, defeating Tre Penne 7-1 and Buducnost Podgorica 5-0.
Breidablik then defeated Shamrock Rovers 3-1 in the first qualifying round.
Unfortunately, Breidablik’s Champions League qualifying campaign came to an end in the second round thanks to a defeat to FC Copenhagen by an aggregate score of 8-3.
Blikar have never qualified for the group stage of a UEFA competition. They are just two rounds away from making the Europa League proper.
The winner of the tie will play Austria’s LASK Linz in the playoff round.
Likewise, Mostar have not qualified for a UEFA group-stage competition.
The team did reach the Conference League playoff round last season, losing to Slovan Bratislava.
Manager Krunoslav Rendulic’s Mostar team have not started the Premier League BH season.
The team last played against Slovan last week in the Champions League second qualifying round, drawing 2-2 in the second leg.
Rendulic could be without left-winger Ivan Jukic due to an injury problem.
Centre-back Marin Magdic is also nursing an injury. The 24-year-old could sit out the first leg.
Breidablik manager Oskar Hrafn Thorvaldsson will be without Patrik Johannesen due to a cruciate ligament injury. The midfielder is the only current injury for Thorvaldsson.
Blikar are in the middle of the Icelandic top-flight season. Breidablik have played 18 matches in the domestic league, posting a record of 10W-4D-4L. They sit third in the competition.
Centre-forward Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson has 10 goals to lead the team in scoring on the domestic front.
Right-back Hoskuldur Gunnlaugsson is the team’s chief creator with 10 assists in the Icelandic top flight.
The competition is getting more difficult in the race for UEFA competition group stage qualification.
Mostar should secure a home win over Breidablik in the first leg. The reigning champions of the Premier League BH should win 3-1 and take a step into the playoff round.
