Fulham hoping to pile more pressure on faltering Man Utd

Following a limp EFL Cup exit in midweek, Manchester United return to Premier League action with an away fixture against Fulham on Saturday.

The two sides are separated by just three points ahead of Matchday 11, with eighth-placed Manchester United leading Fulham in 14th place.

Can Erik ten Hag’s side turn their season around at Craven Cottage? Or will Marco Silva’s men heap more misery on the struggling Red Devils?

Fulham booked their place in the EFL Cup quarter-finals with a 3-1 victory over Ipswich Town on Wednesday, courtesy of goals from Harry Wilson, Rodrigo Muniz and Tom Cairney.

Thanks to a 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend, the Cottagers head into Saturday’s showdown on a two-game unbeaten run.

That said, Silva’s side have struggled for consistency in the Premier League this season, recording three wins, three draws and four defeats.

It is also worth noting that Fulham have scored just nine goals in 10 matches this term, meaning only four teams have netted fewer Premier League goals.

Meanwhile, Manchester United suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Newcastle United on Wednesday, exiting the EFL Cup in the process.

Despite racking up 62% possession and 13 shots at Old Trafford, the Red Devils failed to lay a glove on the Magpies, with Miguel Almiron, Lewis Hall and Joe Willock doing the damage.

In the Premier League, Man Utd have recorded five wins and five losses this term, with a 3-0 defeat to arch-rivals Manchester City coming last weekend.

Having four of their previous seven clashes across all competitions, Erik ten Hag’s men will be desperate to get back on track this weekend.

Head-to-head: Thankfully for Man Utd, they have won six of their last seven meetings with Fulham across all competitions.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Red Devils have avoided defeat in each of their previous 16 matches against the Cottagers.

Team news: Fulham are still without injured centre-back Issa Diop, while Adama Traore, Kenny Tete and Tosin Adarabioyo are doubts for Saturday’s clash.

As for Manchester United, they will be without Lisandro Martinez, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw, Amad Diallo and Jadon Sancho this weekend.

Despite Man Utd’s recent struggles, the visitors are expected to flex their muscles and claim a narrow victory at Craven Cottage.

Forebet predicts that both teams will find the back of the net on Saturday, with Manchester United outscoring Fulham by a solitary goal.
