Can wounded Everton kick-start revival against Manchester United?

Fresh from receiving a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Everton welcome Manchester United to Goodison Park on Sunday.

Following the punishment, the Toffees find themselves level with bottom club Burnley on four points, although they remain just two points from safety.

Man Utd, meanwhile, occupy sixth place in the table. Despite experiencing an inconsistent start to the season, the Red Devils are only seven points off the top.

It’s fair to say that Everton’s 10-point deduction came at just the wrong time for the club, as Sean Dyche’s men have upped their game in recent times.

In fact, the Toffees head into Sunday’s showdown on a four-game unbeaten streak, having picked up three wins and one draw across all competitions.

It is also worth noting that Everton have lost just of their previous nine matches, finding some league form while reaching the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

That said, Dyche’s side have only managed to win one of their last six home games in the Premier League, underlining their struggles at Goodison Park.

As for Manchester United, they head into Sunday’s clash on the back of successive 1-0 victories over Fulham and Luton.

When you look at the bigger picture, the Red Devils have won four of their last five Premier League matches, with no team picking up more points in that time.

Erik ten Hag’s side have also won each of their previous three away league games, which does not bode well for Everton, who have struggled on home soil of late.

Interestingly, Man Utd have not drawn a single match this season, recording nine wins and nine defeats across all competitions.

Head-to-head: Everton have managed to win just one of their last eight Premier League matches against Manchester United.

To make matters worse for the Toffees, they have won only three of their previous 21 meetings with the Red Devils across all competitions.

Team news: Everton are still without Andre Gomes and Dele Alli, while Amadou Onana and Seamus Coleman are doubts for Sunday’s showdown.

Man Utd, on the other hand, are missing Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Amad Diallo Traore due to injury.

When you couple Everton’s poor home form with Man Utd’s strong record on the road in recent times, all the signs point towards an away win here.

With that in mind, Forebet predicts that Man Utd will score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to defeating the Toffees.
