Fresh from winning the FIFA Club World Cup, Manchester City return to Premier League action with an away fixture against Everton on Wednesday.
With a game in hand on the top four, Pep Guardiola’s side find themselves six points shy of table-topping Arsenal and two points outside the Champions League places.
Meanwhile, Everton have effectively wiped out their 10-point deduction, leaving them 16th in the standings – four points clear of the relegation zone.
The Toffees head into Wednesday’s clash on the back of a 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, despite racking up 18 shots on Saturday.
That loss ended a four-game winning streak for Sean Dyche’s side, who defeated Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Burnley before visiting North London.
It is also worth noting that Everton have kept four clean sheets in their previous five Premier League encounters, highlighting their defensive solidity.
Having lost just one of their last home league games, the Toffees will fancy their chances of picking up another positive result at Goodison Park on Wednesday.
As for Manchester City, they thrashed Brazilian side Fluminense 4-0 to clinch the Club World Cup on Friday, with Julian Alvarez bagging a brace in the rout.
Guardiola’s men have now won four of their last five matches across all competitions, scoring 14 goals in the process (2.8 goals per game).
In the Premier League, however, the champions have managed to win just one of their previous six clashes, recording four draws and one defeat in that time.
By their own high standards, Man City have struggled in the league of late, but they will be determined to return to winning ways as soon as possible.
Head-to-head: Manchester City have avoided defeat in each of their last 13 matches against Everton across all competitions.
Everton’s last Premier League win over Man City came back in 2017. Since then, Guardiola’s side have won 10 of the 12 league meetings between the teams.
Team news: Everton will be without injured midfield Idrissa Gueye on Wednesday, while Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young and Seamus Coleman are doubts.
The big team news for Man City concerns star striker Erling Haaland, who requires a late fitness test ahead of Wednesday’s clash.
Kevin De Bruyne remains sidelined, while Rodri and Jeremy Doku are doubts.
It is no secret that Everton have upped their game in recent weeks, but Man City look set to return to Premier League action with a victory.
Forebet predicts that Manchester City will score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to dispatching the Toffees.
