On Sunday evening, Paris Saint-Germain will have their work cut out against the surprise package of the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season.

Brest travel to the French capital to take on the perennial champions, with the visitors aiming to secure a fifth successive clean sheet in the league.

With 18 games in the books, third-placed Brest find themselves nine points behind table-topping PSG. Can the Pirates close the gap? We have used predictive analytics to find the answer.

Last weekend, PSG booked their place in the last 16 of the Coupe de France with an easy 4-1 victory over US Orleans, with Kylian Mbappe netting a brace.

Mbappe has now bagged 28 goals in 26 games across all competitions this season, including 19 goals in 17 Ligue 1 appearances.

Thanks to last weekend’s win, PSG are unbeaten in their last 12 matches, having notched five consecutive victories across December and January.

It is also worth noting that PSG have lost just one of their 18 league encounters this term, winning 10 of their previous 11 to cement top spot.

Meanwhile, Brest have continued to defy the odds throughout the campaign, losing only four of their 18 league games to remain in contention for European football.

Following last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Treslissac in the cup, the Pirates carry a six-game unbeaten streak into Sunday’s showdown.

Better still, Brest have won each of their last four Ligue 1 matches without conceding a single goal, meaning they have kept five clean sheets in their previous six league outings.

Having already claimed away victories over Le Havre, Reims, Montpellier, Metz and Nantes this term, Brest will fancy their chances of upsetting the odds on Sunday.

Head-to-head: PSG have won each of their last 14 meetings with Brest across all competitions, scoring over 1.5 goals on 11 occasions during that period.

In their previous four home league games against the Pirates, PSG have scored nine goals while conceding just once, keeping three clean sheets in the process.

Team news: PSG’s absentee list contains Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Presnel Kimpembe, Kang-In Lee, Nuno Mendes, Sergio Rico and Milan Skriniar.

As for Brest, Jordan Amavi is sidelined with a calf injury, while Kamory Doumbia is representing Mali at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite Brest’s hugely impressive defensive stats, PSG look destined to extend their winning streak against the Pirates to 15 games.

Forebet’s algorithm predicts that both teams will score at the Parc des Princes. However, PSG are expected to edge Brest on this occasion.
