The bottom half of the Euro 2024 knockout draw looks inviting and we have a match involving two teams who can see a route through to the semi-final.

The game between Romania and Netherlands will be played on the 2nd of July at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Romania caused a shock by finishing top of Group E while Netherlands were forced to settle for third place in Group D.

Romania come into the match on the back of a 1-1 draw with Slovakia in their final group game. Romania knew a point would probably be enough for them to progress but fell behind in the 24th minute.

However, it did not take long for Romania to respond and they scored the equaliser in the 37th minute from the penalty spot to get the point they required.

The win over Slovakia means Romania are undefeated in 4 of their last 5 fixtures in all competitions. The was a 3-0 win over Ukraine in their opening Euro 2024 match plus draws with Bulgaria and Lichtenstein in friendlies prior to the tournament.

Romania’s only defeat came against Belgium in their second group game.

Trends show Romania have won only 1 of their 10 most recent Euro 2024 matches. They have seen under 2.5 goals scored in 8 of those 10 games and have failed to score a goal in 2 of their last 4 fixtures in the competition.

Netherlands travel to the Allianz Arena having lost their final group game 3-2 against Austria.

Netherlands were 1-0 down at halftime but equalised early in the second half. Austria took the lead again in the 59th minute but Netherlands came back to equalise for the second time 16 minutes later. Austria scored the winning goal in the 80th minute.

The defeat to Austria was the first in 5 matches for Netherlands. They beat Poland in their opening Euro 2024 fixture plus they beat Canada and Iceland in friendlies. Netherlands also picked up a point in Group D thanks to a 0-0 draw with France.

The stats show Netherlands have won only 1 of their last 4 Euro 2024 matches. They are undefeated in 5 of their 7 most recent fixtures in the competition and have kept a clean sheet in 3 of their last 6 games in the tournament.

Team news and Romania are without suspended left-back Nicusor Bancu. Vasile Mogos could come into the team meaning Andrei Ratiu would have to switch to the left side.

Netherlands have no injury or suspension concerns. Xavi Simons is expected to come into the starting XI in place of Joey Veerman.

Romania have shown enough in the tournament to suggest they could cause Netherlands some problems in this game.

However, if Netherlands can keep out France, they will feel they can do the same to Romania and our prediction is for a narrow 1-0 win for the Dutch.
