Atalanta Closing in on Champions League

We have just three matches remaining in the Serie A season and it is looking like an exciting finish at the top of the table.  The league title has been decided but the top four and Champions League places are still up for grabs.

On Saturday afternoon, Atalanta have a chance to move above Inter Milan and into third place as they take on Genoa at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

Atalanta begin the weekend in fourth place on 62 points and that leaves them 3 points clear of AC Milan and Roma but 1 point behind Inter Milan.  Genoa are fighting at the bottom of the table to avoid relegation and a win would be a huge step in the right direction.

Trends show Atalanta Bergamo are undefeated in their last ten Serie A games and they have won each of their last three. There has also been a win in the Coppa Italia semi-final over Fiorentina and that leaves them with a cup final to play in mid-week.

Home form shows Atalanta are undefeated in their last five Serie A games and they have won three of those matches.  The wins have come against Fiorentina, Bologna and Udinese.  However, there have also been draws against Chievo and Empoli so Atalanta cannot afford to take this game for granted.

Atalanta have won four of their last seven league games by 2 goals or more.

Genoa are struggling to pick up points in what has become a battle against relegation this season.  Trends show they have won only four of their last twenty-nine Serie A games and have failed to win any of the last seven.

The only points they have picked up in their last seven matches have been in draws at Napoli, SPAL and at home to Roma.

Genoa have failed to win any of their last seven away league games and have failed to score a goal in four of their last six on the road. Ten of their last eleven Serie A matches have seen under 2.5 goals including each of their last seven away games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Atalanta have doubts over the fitness of Rafael Toloi and Marco Varnier.  Every other player should be available and Atalanta will be close to full strength.

Genoa will have to make do without Miguel Veloso who is suspended for this game.  Andrea Favilli, Stefano Sturaro and Oscar Hiljemark are unlikely to play any part.

Atalanta are the favourites to win this game and it easy to see why when looking at the form of the two teams.  However, it could be a tight game with a home win and under 2.5 goals.
