There are several matches to watch in the Brazilian Serie A this weekend.  On Sunday 9th June Fluminense welcome Flamengo to the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.  This is an iconic stadium and one both teams share, so we should be in for a great game.

Fluminense begin the weekend too close to the relegation zone for comfort. They have just 6 points from seven games played and that leaves them above the relegation zone only on goal difference.  Flamengo are looking at the other end of the table and are 3 points off the lead in 4th place.

Trends show Fluminense come into this game in poor form having lost three and drawn one of their last four matches in all competitions.  Even the game they managed to draw which was in the Copa do Brasil on Wednesday, Fluminense lost on penalties to Cruzeiro.

Fluminense have won one of their last four Serie A matches and that came at home against Cruzeiro.  It was a convincing 4-1 win but they have since lost two league games, both of which were away from home.

Scoring goals has been a problem and trends show Fluminense have failed to score in ten of their last fifteen Serie A matches.  That includes five of their last seven on home soil and they need to improve in that department.

Flamengo have won each of their last three matches, two of which have come in the league. They defeated Atletico Paranense and Fortaleza, with both games being played at home.  On Wednesday night they defeated the Corinthians 1-0 in the Copa do Brasil, which was also played on home soil.

Flamengo have lost one of their last five league games and picked up 9 points from the last 12 available.  Away from home however they have failed to win in their last three attempts.  There have been defeats at Internacional and Atletico Mineiro plus a draw at Sao Paulo.

Trends show Flamengo rarely fail to score a goal and they have netted at least once in each of their last eighteen matches in Serie A, including their last nine on the road.

Team news and Fluminense are without the suspended Airton and injured duo of Bruno Silva and Léo Santos.  João Pedro is an exciting talent at just 17 years of age and could start up-front.

Flamengo on the other hand appear to have a clean bill of health which means every player should be available.  That could see Bruno Henrique and Gabriel Barbosa start the game in attack.

The visitors have to begin this game as favourites.  They have failed to win their last three away league games but know how to score goals on the road.  Fluminense have struggled for goals at home for the most part recently but scored 4 at home last time out so we could see an away win and over 2.5 goals.
