Fulham and Blackburn looking to bounce back after opening day defeats

Fulham and Blackburn looking to bounce back after opening day defeats

Fulham lost to Barnsley in their first match back in the Championship and now welcome Blackburn Rovers to Craven Cottage.

Blackburn also lost their season opener with Charlton Athletic and both sides will be looking to record their first win of the new campaign on Saturday.

Despite seeing more of the possession against Barnsley, Fulham conceded after just 13 minutes and then failed to find a reply.

The Cottagers had a total of 15 shots but could only manage 4 on target, leaving manager Scott Parker with some team selection dilemmas.

Anthony Knockaert came off the bench against Barnsley to make his debut for the club following his loan move from Brighton.

The tricky winger will surely be pushing for a place in the starting eleven after Fulham’s disappointing performance in attack on the opening day.

Midfielder Harry Arter could also come into the side following his loan move from Bournemouth.

Blackburn enjoyed 62% possession against Charlton but couldn’t make their dominance count as their first match of the 2019/20 campaign ended in defeat.

They went behind just before half-time but pulled one back thanks to an own-goal from Charlton’s Dillion Phillips.

Lyle Taylor scored in the 77th minute to condemn Blackburn to an opening day defeat.

Jacob Davenport and Sam Hart were both injured for Blackburn’s first match of the season and are likely to be unavailable for selection again on Saturday.

Fulham won just six of their 19 home league games last season and trailed at half-time in more than half of their matches at Craven Cottage.

They also conceded 81 goals – the worst defensive record in the league – at a rate of over 2 goals per game.

If Fulham are to push for promotion this year, Scott Parker must tighten up his team at the back.

On the other hand, Blackburn will be hoping to win their opening away game of a season for the first time since 2014/15.

Rovers have lost 2 and drawn 2 of their last four opening away matches of a campaign.

The last time the two teams played in the same division was in 2016/17. Fulham beat Blackburn 1-0 away from home before a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture saw Fulham claim four points from a possible six against Rovers.

Remarkably, Blackburn’s last four away games of the 2018/19 season resulted in a 2-1 scoreline.

Forebet is predicting Fulham to win by the same scoreline on Saturday.
