Liverpool Face Potentially Tough Test at Burnley

Liverpool Face Potentially Tough Test at Burnley
3077

The final game on Saturday in the Premier League is an intriguing encounter as Liverpool travel to Turf Moor to take on Burnley.  The Reds are hoping to maintain their 100% start to the season while Burnley are hoping to cement their place in the top half of the league table.

Burnley come into this match having played in the League Cup on Wednesday night. They lost 3-1 at home to League One team Sunderland in what was a disappointing result.  However, Sean Dyche made several changes to his starting XI.

That result means Burnley have failed to win any of their last three games in all competitions.  The 2-1 defeat at Arsenal was followed by a 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton Wanderers.  Burnley will feel they could have got more from both matches, with the concession of a last minute penalty at Wolves costing them all 3 points.

Trends show Burnley have won only one of their last eight Premier League matches, a run which stretches back to last season.  They have lost five of their last seven games in all competitions and have failed to keep a clean sheet in each of the last three.

At home in the Premier League, Burnley have scored at least one goal in fourteen of their last fifteen matches.  They have kept only three clean sheets in their last ten Premier League games at Turf Moor.

Liverpool did not play in midweek as they enter the League Cup in the following round. Their last match came in the Premier League last weekend and Liverpool defeated Arsenal 3-1 at home.  The Reds have had the better of the Gunners in recent years and it was no surprise to see them win comfortably at home.

That result means Liverpool have won all three of their Premier League games this season.  They started with a 4-1 home win over Norwich City and followed that with a 2-1 victory at Southampton.

Trends show Liverpool have failed to keep a clean sheet this season and that’s surprisingly been their weakness.  However, they are on a run of twenty games without defeat in the Premier League and have won each of their last twelve.

Liverpool have scored 2 or more goals in seventeen of their last twenty matches in all competitions.

Team news and Burnley could be without three players for this game.  Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Steven Defour both have a calf injury while Robbie Brady is hoping to return from a cracked rib.

Liverpool are still without first choice goalkeeper Alisson and that means Adrian will continue in goal.  Naby Keita is out with a hip injury and Nathaniel Clyne is unlikely to feature until January.

Burnley have the potential to cause Liverpool problems in this game.  They should find the back of the net but keeping the visitors out is going to be a problem.  Liverpool to win with both team scoring seems a likely outcome.
