Villa and Burnley set for low-scoring draw
2365

Aston Villa host Burnley on Saturday with the home side looking for just their second league win of the season.

After beating Everton, Villa have since lost to Crystal Palace and Arsenal and could only manage a draw with West Ham.

However, manager Dean Smith will take a lot of positives from his side’s trip to the Emirates, as Villa twice took the lead against Arsenal and showed signs of real promise.

Villa recorded 14 shots against the Gunners and would have surely come away with something from the match on another day.

With that being said, only 5 teams have scored fewer Premier League goals than Aston Villa this season.

On the other hand, Burnley come into this match on the back of a comfortable 2-0 home win over Norwich last time out, with Chris Wood bagging both goals.

Burnley have been impressive defensively this season but Sean Dyche will know that his team needs to start scoring more goals.

The Clarets have scored 8 league goals this term, 4 of which have come from Ashley Barnes while Wood has 2.

Burnley rely heavily on their two strikers and Dyche will be looking for other members of his squad to step up and chip in.

Despite Villa and Burnley meeting 116 times over the years, there has only been 7 matches between the two teams since 1976.

Burnley won 2 of those 7 meetings, meaning Villa were unbeaten in 5 (3 wins and 2 draws).

This is the first match between the teams since 2015 and Burnley came away with 1-0 win on that occasion.

It is also worth mentioning that this fixture hasn’t produced many goals in recent times, with 4 of the 7 meetings since 1976 ending with under 2.5 goals.

There is a sense that both Burnley and Aston Villa should begin to pick up some consistent wins as the season progresses.

Both squads are packed with talented players and both managers are likely to have a top-half finish in their sights.

It’s likely to be a cagey match this time around and the low scoring trend in this fixture looks set to continue.

Forebet predicts a low scoring draw with both teams getting on the scoresheet.
