Can PSV Keep Pressure on Leaders with Win at Utrecht?
2744

There are several fixtures to look forward to in the Dutch Eredivisie on Saturday 19th October, one of which involves PSV Eindhoven.  Mark van Bommel’s team are hoping to wrestle the title away from Ajax this season but this will not be an easy fixture away to Utrecht.

As things stand in the table, Utrecht are in 6th place with 14 points to their name and that leaves them 8 points behind PSV, who are in 2nd place, level on points with Ajax who top the Eredivisie.

Utrecht come into this match having lost 2-1 at Vitesse before the international break. 3 points separated the teams before kick-off and despite scoring an equaliser in the 28th minute, Utrecht could not hold on for a point in the second half.

That was their first defeat in 4 league games having previously recorded victories over Emmen and Willem II at home plus picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at Heerenveen.

Utrecht are tough to beat on home soil and they have lost only one of their last 13 home matches in the Eredivisie.  They have won 3 of their last 4 and last season they managed to hold PSV to a 2-2 draw on home soil.

Trends show Utrecht have seen over 2.5 goals scored in 8 of their last 9 league games.

PSV make the trip to the Stadion Galgenwaard on the back of a comfortable 4-1 home win over VVV last time out. That victory saw PSV maintain their unbeaten start to the season in Holland and they have won 7 and drawn 2 of their 9 league matches.

The wins have come at home against ADO Den Haag, Vitesse, Groningen and VVV plus PSV were held to a 1-1 draw by Ajax.  Away from home, PSV have drawn at Twente plus defeated Heracles, RKC Waalwijk and PEC Zwolle.  Trends show PSV have lost only 1 of their last 7 away Eredivisie games and are undefeated on the road this season.

PSV are a difficult team to beat and they have lost only 2 of their last 27 league matches.  They have won 11 of their last 14 and have defeated Utrecht by 2 or more goals in 8 of their last 10 meetings.

Team news and Utrecht have only one injury concern and that involves Justin Lonwijk.  The young midfielder is recovering from a knee injury and will be assessed closer to the game.

PSV travel with doubts over the fitness of forward Sam Lammers and goalkeeper Yannick Van Osch.  Jorrit Hendrix is back in training following a groin injury.

PSV go into every match in the Eredivisie expecting to win and this one is no different.  They have a good recent record against Utrecht and although they may struggle to keep a clean sheet, should score the goals required to win the match.
