Can Liverpool Keep 100% Record at Home of Bitter Rival?
4696

The Premier League is back this weekend with a blockbuster fixture on Sunday afternoon.  Manchester United host Liverpool in what is arguably the biggest rivalry in English football.

Both clubs need to win for different reasons.  Manchester United want to move out of the bottom half of the table while Liverpool want to maintain their 100% start to the season.

Manchester United come into this game on the back of a poor 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United. It was another disappointing display from the Red Devils and they have won only 2 of their 8 Premier League matches this season.

The two wins have both come at home against Chelsea on the opening weekend of the season and Leicester City in the middle of September.  Manchester United have dropped points by losing at home to Crystal Palace and away to West Ham United and Newcastle United.  They have also been held by Arsenal at home and Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton away.

Trends show Manchester United have won just 1 of their last 7 Premier League matches which is simply not good enough.  However, they are undefeated in 17 of their last 20 home Premier League games and will hope they can build on that record.

Manchester United have seen under 2.5 goals in each of their last 8 matches in all competitions.

Liverpool arrive at the Theatre of Dreams having won all 8 of their Premier League matches this season. It has been a tremendous start for Jurgen Klopp’s team and they will be desperate to keep their run going by defeating their rivals away from home.

This season, Liverpool have defeated Norwich City, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Leicester City at home.  They have also beaten Southampton, Burnley, Chelsea and Sheffield United on the road.

Trends show Liverpool have won each of their last 8 away Premier League matches and are undefeated in their last 12.  In total, they are on a fantastic run of 25 games without defeat in the Premier League and have lost only one of their last 46 league matches.

Liverpool are on a run of 17 straight wins in the Premier League and have won by 2 or more goals in 14 of their last 24 games in all competitions.

Team news and Manchester United could have some key players unavailable for this game.  David De Gea and Paul Pogba are both expected to miss out.  They could be joined by Anthony Martial, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw on the side-lines.

Liverpool are without Nathaniel Clyne and Xherdan Shaqiri due to injury.  Mohamed Salah, Joel Matip and Alisson are doubtful.

Manchester United have always managed to make life tough for Liverpool, with just one defeat in their last 6 meetings in the Premier League.  However, with the potential of key players missing, this could be the time for Liverpool to pounce and come away with maximum points.
