Wolverhampton Wanderers to continue brilliant form against Southampton
2612

Wolverhampton Wanderers are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions and host Southampton on Saturday looking for a fourth straight win in cup and league matches.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team struggled to adapt to life in the Europa League and Premier League in the early stages of the season. However, Wolverhampton Wanderers are now unbeaten in their last two Premier League matches winning against Watford and Manchester City.

Last weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium was one of the upsets of the season. Wolves handled wave after wave of Manchester City attacks before getting the breakthrough courtesy of a counter-attack.

Adama Traore scored twice in final 15 minutes of the game to give Wolves a win from two nearly identical counter-attacks and goals. Now, Wolverhampton Wanderers aim for a third straight league win before starting back in the Europa League next Thursday.

Santo has several players fighting for fitness on Saturday. Diogo Jota, Morgan White-Gibbs, and Romain Saiss are all being assessed as the game approaches.

Southampton are struggling with three straight losses in the Premier League. The Saints are outside of the relegation zone due to goal difference but could find themselves in the bottom three with a loss and results going against them elsewhere on Saturday.

Ralph Hassenhuttl’s team have collected a mere seven points from 24 possible. The good news for the manager is Southampton’s away form. Six of their seven points have come on the road.

However, Southampton are coming off an away loss in their last match away from St. Mary’s, 2-1, to Tottenham Hotspur.

Wolverhampton have only taken five points from 12 possible at home. However, only one match (versus Chelsea) ended in defeat. Wolverhampton Wanderers are undefeated against Southampton in their last three matches at Molineaux Stadium in all competitions.

Two of those fixtures ended in wins and one in a draw. Wolves won at Molineaux last season against Southampton, 2-0. It was their second straight clean sheet win over Southampton at Molineaux in all competitions.

While Wolves won at Molineaux last term, Southampton took the spoils at St. Mary’s with a 3-1 victory. Saturday’s match should see a similar scoreline but with Wolverhampton Wanderers picking up the victory.

Santo’s team has turned their fortunes around and will continue their unbeaten run. Expect Wolverhampton Wanderers to win with over 2.5 goals scored and both teams finding the back of the net.
