Eintracht Frankfurt continue Europa League winning streak

Last season’s Europa League semifinalists Eintracht Frankfurt host Standard Liege on Thursday night at the Commerzbank Arena. The Germans head into the fixture having won against Vitoria on Europa League matchday 2.
Head coach Adi Hutter will be confident his team can pick up a second straight victory and move into sole possession of second place in Group F. Eintracht Frankfurt and Standard Liege go into matchday 3 on three points apiece.
The two sides defeated Vitoria without much trouble but failed to overcome Arsenal. Now, they are both aiming to be the second-best team in Europa League Group F.
Eintracht Frankfurt are coming off of a 3-0 mauling against Bayer Leverkusen. Hutter’s team was rampant with Goncalo Paciencia scoring twice and Bas Dost picking up a third goal.
Standard Liege are also coming off of a weekend win. The Belgians defeated Genk 1-0 at home and now have 23 points from 33 possible.
The Reds were throttled by Arsenal in their last Europa League group stage match 4-0. Manager Michel Preud'homme will hope his team can put in a far better performance than in London at the beginning of the month.
Like Standard Liege, Eintracht Frankfurt were shutout by Arsenal. The Eagles were beaten 3-0 at home despite keeping the game close until the 85th minute. Arsenal opened the floodgates from there with two additional goals as Eintracht Frankfurt pushed forward.
Paciencia goes into the fixture with five goals in the Bundesliga. The Portuguese striker hasn’t found the back of the net in the Europa League, but should be deployed from the start against Standard Liege. Paciencia is having a break out season in Germany after bedding into the team last season.
Eintracht Frankfurt are at their strongest when playing on the counter-attack. The problem with playing Standard Liege, they may not get many opportunities to counter-attack them. Standard Liege should sit off Eintracht Frankfurt and also look to counter.
The Belgians may have conceded four goals to Arsenal, but they have only allowed nine scores in 11 matches in the Belgian Pro League. Standard Liege’s loss to Arsenal was not a good representation of the team and Thursday’s match should be much better from them.
Still, Eintracht Frankfurt are a strong team with top players at each position. If there is one problem that Eintracht Frankfurt have it is the injury to starting goalkeeper Kevin Trapp. The shot-stopper is out for the rest of the season and No. 2 Frederik Ronnow has taken over in goal.
The Eagles will see off Standard Liege in an exciting match at the Commerzbank Arena on Thursday night. Expect both teams to score and Eintracht Frankfurt to just edge their opponents with over 2.5 goals tallied.
