West Ham and Spurs heading for unwanted stalemate
5776

West Ham host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday. This London derby carries extra significance, as both teams will be desperate to end their respective winless streaks.

The Hammers’ last win came back in September when they beat Manchester United 2-0. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have failed to find a win in any of their last seven league games since then, and pressure is certainly mounting on the Chilean manager.

Recent defeats to Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle, and Burnley have seen West Ham slip to sixteenth in the table. After a promising start to the 2019/20 campaign, things have quickly gone downhill for the Hammers.

Despite West Ham’s wretched run, Tottenham sit just one point and two places above them in the table. Spurs’ last Premier League victory came against Southampton, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men are without a win in five top-flight matches.

Tottenham have drawn three of their last four league games 1-1, so it’s clear that their problems lie at both ends of the pitch. Defensively, Spurs have been well below par this season. But they have also struggled find the back of the net.

It’s no surprise that Harry Kane is the club’s top goalscorer this season. The England captain has netted six goals in 11 league appearances so far, but Tottenham’s other forwards have been nowhere near their best.

Son Heung-min has scored three league goals in 2019/20, but no other Spurs player has managed to score more than twice in the Premier League.

West Ham have also struggled for goals this season. The club’s top scorer, Sebastien Haller, has bagged four league goals this campaign, but has only managed to score once in his last eight top-flight appearances.

The recent head-to-head record between West Ham and Tottenham is mixed. The Hammers have won four of the last ten meetings between the two teams, while Spurs have claimed five victories in that time. Five of those ten games have produced two goals or less.

It’s likely to be another low-scoring encounter on Saturday. Neither side has been prolific in front of goal recently, while both teams have been conceding goals on a regular basis.

Both West Ham and Tottenham will be desperate to claim all three points, but we could see this match end in a draw.

Forebet predicts that both teams will get on the scoresheet. However, a share of the spoils looks likely.
