Can Inter Milan Maintain Their Lead with Win Over Roma?

Juventus have had things all their own way in the Italian Serie A for some time. However, could this be the season which sees them removed from the top of Italian football?

If it is, Inter Milan appear to be the team who can wrestle away their crown and on Friday the 6th of December they play host to Roma at the San Siro.

As things stand at the top of the table ahead of the weekend games, Inter Milan have 37 points which leaves them one point clear of Juventus. Roma are in 4th place on 28 points and they are hoping to move above local rivals Lazio with a win.

Inter Milan come into this match having defeated SPAL 2-1 at home last weekend. Inter Milan were 2-0 up at half time but conceded a goal in the second half to eventually run out 2-1 winners. It was their 5th successive win in Serie A and they are undefeated in their last 7 domestic league games. In fact, Inter Milan have lost just one match in Serie A all season and that came against the defending champions Juventus.

Trends show Inter Milan have seen over 2.5 goals scored in each of their last 9 Serie A matches. In addition, both teams have scored in 8 of those 9 games and Inter Milan have found the back of the net at least twice in each of their last 7 Serie A matches.

Roma make the trip to Milan having defeated Hellas Verona 3-1 away from home on the weekend. With the score level at 1-1 heading into half time Roma took the lead on 45 minutes and scored the only goal of the second half in the 92nd minute to seal maximum points. That was their second Serie A win in succession and Roma have won 5 of their last 6 league games.

Roma have been very difficult to beat in recent Serie A matches and have lost just one of their last 9 games. The defeat came away against Parma and trends show that has been their only defeat in their last 11 away Serie A matches. Only 3 of the 11 games have seen over 2.5 goals scored and Roma have conceded more than a single goal in just 1 of those matches and that was in the defeat against Parma.

Looking ahead to the team news and Inter Milan are without the injured duo of Alexis Sanchez and Nicolò Barella who have an ankle and knee injury respectively. Stefano Sensi is suffering from a thigh problem and unlikely to be involved.

Roma are definitely without Bryan Cristante and Davide Zappacosta due to injury. Javier Pastore, Antonio Mirante, Devid Eugene Bouah and Justin Kluivert are all rated as doubtful.

This is a huge game for both teams but Inter Milan appear in no mood to drop points. The margin of victory is unlikely to be anything more than a single goal but Inter Milan must be considered favourites to take maximum points.
