Borussia Monchengladbach are out of the running for the Bundesliga title, but they still need to claim points to hang onto a top-four place. The Foals head into matchday 29 clinging onto fourth place on 53 points and level with Bayer Leverkusen.

Marco Rose’s team will welcome a slumping Union Berlin to Borussia Park and will expect to send the visitors back to the German capital with another loss. Urs Fischer’s team are a mere four points above the relegation playoff place occupied by Fortuna Dusseldorf.

Union Berlin are winless in five straight games with three of those ending in losses. The Iron Ones managed a 1-1 draw with Mainz in midweek to end a three-match losing streak. Still, it was a narrow 1-1 result and playing against a top-four team will be difficult this weekend.

Despite Union Berlin’s current woes, they did claim a 2-0 win versus the Foals in the first half of the season. Anthony Ujah and Sebastian Andersson scored either side of halftime to send Union Berlin home victorious.

Gladbach may be winless in their last two games, but they do possess the Bundesliga’s third-best home points total with 29. They have posted a 9W-2D-3L record at home. Remarkably, two of those three losses have come in their last three home fixtures.

Union Berlin, on the other hand, have the division’s second-worst away points total. Just 11 points from 42 possible have been collected and four of their last six road games ended in losses.

Rose will be without striker Breel Embolo who is nursing a calf injury. The striker suffered the injury during Borussia Monchengladbach’s 3-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Fischer will be without midfielder Robert Andrich due to a suspension. Fellow midfielder Akaki Gogia is set to miss out due to a lack of match fitness while Sheraldo Becker has a thigh strain.

Union Berlin are in trouble with just four points separating them from a suddenly improving Fortuna Dusseldorf. The Reds could catch Union Berlin if the latter continues to drop points.

Sunday’s trip to Borussia Park should see the Iron Ones once again struggle away from home. Borussia Monchengladbach should get back to winning ways with over 2.5 goals being scored.

Gladbach’s exciting young striker Marcus Thuram has 12 goals in all competitions and could once again find the back of the net this weekend. The Foals have a lot to play for and should keep their top-four spot with a win.
