Unbeaten West Ham to maintain hot streak at expense of winless Luton Town

West Ham United will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the Premier League season when they face Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Friday night.

With three matches in the books, the Hammers occupy second place in the Premier League table – two points behind Manchester City.

At the opposite end of the standings, Luton find themselves second from bottom after failing to pick up a point from their opening two games.

Luton started their campaign with a 4-1 thrashing at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion, seeing just 29% possession while facing a barrage of 27 shots at the Amex.

Last weekend, the Hatters suffered a 3-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, managing a solitary attempt on target in the process.

However, Luton head into Friday’s clash on the back of a 3-2 victory over Gillingham in the second round of the EFL Cup, courtesy of goals from Jacob Brown, Alfie Doughty and Cauley Woodrow.

It goes without saying that Rob Edwards will be eager for his players to carry their EFL Cup form onto the Premier League stages before it’s too late.

As for West Ham, they claimed an impressive 3-1 victory over Brighton last time out, despite seeing just 22% of the ball against the Seagulls.

That victory followed a 3-1 win against Chelsea on the second weekend of the season, meaning the Hammers are aiming for three straight victories this weekend.

Thanks to a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth in their first match, David Moyes’ side have taken seven points from a possible nine this season.

Only Brighton and Aston Villa have scored more Premier League goals than West Ham this term, while only three sides have conceded fewer goals.

Head-to-head: The last meeting between Luton and West Ham came all the way back in 1994, with the Hatters claiming a 3-2 victory in the FA Cup on that occasion.

That said, the overall head-to-head record is almost even. West Ham have claimed 33 wins in this fixture, while Luton have claimed 32 wins.

Team news: Luton currently have three players on the treatment table – Dan Potts, Jordan Clark and Gabriel Osho.

On the flip side, West Ham will be without Konstantinos Mavropanos on Friday, while Tomas Soucek is a doubt after picking up an injury last weekend.

While Luton will be desperate to open their Premier League account on home soil, unbeaten West Ham should be too strong for the newcomers.

Forebet predicts that West Ham United will score over 1.5 goals and keep a clean sheet on their way to defeating Luton Town.
