Two High-Scoring Sides Clash in Ligue 1 with Nantes Hosting Montpellier
3154

Montpellier will head to the Beaujoire Stadium this weekend to meet with an in-form Nantes side who are sitting in the top half of the table right now with Montpellier a few spots behind them in 12th.

It has been a topsy-turvy season for Montpellier and the suspended game between them and Clermont Foot took place two weekends ago after Mory Diaw was hit with a firecracker from a fan in the last game where Montpellier were minutes away from winning the game 4-2.

It was a thrilling game when the two met before the international break, and by leading 4-2, Montpellier will be furious with the actions off the field that led to the game being suspended.

However, excluding that game, Montpellier have now recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season after a 3-0 win over Lorient too.

This was also their first home win since back in April 2023 when they beat Rennes 1-0, ending a run of five games without a victory on home soil - this saw them draw three and lose two at home.

Montpellier have also now scored 50 goals in Ligue 1 since Michael Der Zakarian took over in February, which is the highest tally in the first division over this Period, surpassing PSG's tally of 49.

Akor Adams scored twice in that win over Lorient before Teji Tedy Savanier scored from the penalty spot in the second half.

Prior to this, the club had also drawn 2-2 with Strasbourg to put them on a three-game unbeaten run since losses to Reims and Lille, and given how they were minutes away from beating Clermont Foot, the club can confidently say they are on a four-game unbeaten run.

This run puts Montpellier in 12th and with nine points on the board with an impressive defensive record of nine goals conceded and 12 goals scored.

They have now lost just two of their seven games and have a game in hand over everyone else around them - this could see them jump into as high as seventh if form continues.

As for Nantes, they are sitting in ninth ahead of this game after beating Strasbourg 2-1 away from home. The club did lose 3-1 to Rennes before that, but by defeating Lorient 5-3 three weeks ago, they sit comfortably in the top 10.

Forebet predicts a draw and over 2.5 goals.
