Two sides pushing for European football lock horns in Ligue 1 this weekend. As always, Forebet has utilized predictive analytics to forecast the outcome of the game.

Ahead of Saturday’s clash at the Stade Velodrome, seventh-placed Marseille trail fourth-placed Monaco by five points in the table.

Statistics show that Marseille boast the second-best home record in Ligue 1, but Monaco will be hopeful of enhancing the division’s third-best away record.

Last time out, Marseille suffered a dramatic defeat to Rennes in the Coupe de France, losing 9-8 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time.

In the league, however, OM have avoided defeat in each of their last seven matches, picking up four wins and three draws to climb the table.

It is also worth noting that Marseille remain unbeaten on home soil in Ligue 1 this season, having secured six wins and three draws in their own backyard.

With only three defeats coming in their previous 21 home league games, OM back themselves to create more positive trends at the Stade Velodrome.

While Marseille possess the second-best home record in Ligue 1, Monaco hold the third-best away record, suggesting that Saturday’s clash will be a close-fought battle.

Indeed, the Monegasques have lost just two of their nine away league outings this season, picking up four wins and three draws along the way.

Thanks to a 3-1 victory over Rodez in the Coupe de France last time out, Monaco have now won five of their previous seven matches across all competitions.

The visitors have also won seven of their last 12 Ligue 1 encounters, scoring over 1.5 goals in each of their last three away games.

Head-to-head: The H2H stats point towards an even contest, as both sides have won four of the past 10 meetings with one another.

Monaco claimed a 3-2 victory over Marseille in the reverse fixture back in September, although OM won by the same scoreline in 2022.

Team news: Marseille have seven players at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Bilal Nadir, Valentin Rongier and Pedro Ruiz are sidelined due to injury.

As for Monaco, they have four AFCON absentees. The visitors are also missing Eliesse Ben Seghir, Caio Henrique, Breel Embolo and Eliot Matazo through injury.

If recent mathematics are anything to go by, Saturday’s showdown will be a tight affair between two of the division’s strongest teams both home and away.

Forebet’s algorithm predicts that Marseille and Monaco will combine for over 2.5 goals, with the hosts edging out the visitors on this occasion.
