Colombia were the only team in Copa America Group D to win during matchday No. 1. The Colombians defeated Paraguay and are top of the group.

Will our AI-powered algorithm predict another Colombia win in the Copa America?

Colombia will meet Copa rival Costa Rica at State Farm Stadium in Arizona. It will be both teams’ first match at the stadium.

Costa Rica are seeking a first win of the Copa America. The Ticos picked up a significant draw in their opening match against Brazil. The teams drew nil-nil in Los Angeles with neither able to make the breakthrough.

Colombia, on the other hand, won 2-1 versus Paraguay in Houston. Daniel Munoz opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. Jefferson Lerma added a second goal 10 minutes later. Paraguay pulled a goal back in the 69th minute but couldn’t find a second.

These teams have met just five times since 2004. Colombia won four of those five games, whileParaguay scored just one win. The Cafeteros outscored Paraguay 9-4 across the five matches.

These teams last met in 2018. The Cafeteros posted a 3-1 when the teams played in a friendly.

Colombia dominated possession against Paraguay, with 68%. Coach Nestor Lozano deployed the team in a 4-3-3 formation. Lerma was used as the No. 6. Meanwhile, creative attacking players Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez were used in wide areas.

Costa Rica coach Gustavo Alfaro used a 5-3-2 formation against Brazil. It was a very defensive formation. Alfaro could change his formation against Colombia, using a more attacking approach.

The Ticos’ defensive tactics against Brazil led to just two shots being tallied and zero hitting the target. Costa Rica worked hard to get behind the ball versus Brazil and only had 26% of the possession.

Colombia are the bookmakers’ favourites ahead of the match against Costa Rica. The Cafeteros are the fourth-favourite to win the Copa America. They have only won the tournament on one occasion in 2001.

Colombia finished third at the previous Copa America in 2021. It was their third third-place finish in as many competitions.

Costa Rica played in four previous Copa America tournaments. In three of the four tournaments, Costa Rica did not make it past the group stage.

Colombia should take advantage of Costa Rica’s poor attack. The Cafeteros should post a 2-1 win according to our score predictor algorithm.

The win will give Colombia six points from six in the group.
